Hosan Vision’s “Autonomous Variable-Rate Fertilizer” Selected for Development by the National Agricultural Technology Research Institute

  • Received 2.2 billion won in research funds over 4 years
Hosan Vision will be working with the National Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology Planning and Evaluation (NIAT) for the next four years on the “AI-based Nutrient Diagnosis-Optimal Fertilization Full-cycle Integrated Self-Propelled Variable Rate Fertilizer Smart Package.” The photo shows Hosan Vision demonstrating a variable rate fertilizer with a farmer.

Hosan Vision, an agricultural machinery company that manufactures fertilizers, announced that it has been selected for the development project of the ‘AI-based nutrient diagnosis – optimal fertilization full cycle integrated self-propelled variable fertilizer smart package (hereinafter referred to as self-propelled variable fertilizer smart package)’ hosted by the National Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology Planning and Evaluation (hereafter referred to as the Rural Development Administration). Hosan Vision plans to receive 2.2 billion won in research funding over the next four years to present next-generation precision agriculture technologies that will help reduce rural labor and fertilizer usage.

This project will be promoted in the form of an industry-academia-research consortium with Hosan Vision as the lead organization, GI System, a specialized agricultural machinery system development company; Chonnam National University, which possesses AI-based precision aerial pest control robot technology; Korea Construction Equipment Research Institute (KOCETI), a research institute specializing in agricultural machinery safety and convenience technology; and Daedong, an agricultural machinery manufacturer.

The core of the project to be carried out by Hosan Vision, ‘AI-based nutrient diagnosis-optimal fertilization full-cycle integrated self-propelled variable fertilization smart package’, is the ‘variable fertilization machine’ developed by Hosan Vision, which has proven to be effective in reducing fertilizer usage.

The core of the ‘AI-based nutrient diagnosis-optimal fertilization full-cycle integrated self-propelled variable fertilizer smart package’ development project to be carried out by Hosan Vision is the ‘variable fertilizer’ developed by Hosan Vision, which has proven to be effective in reducing fertilizer usage. The
‘self-propelled variable fertilizer smart package’ is an integrated next-generation agricultural solution that features accurate nutrient judgment based on AI analysis, a self-propelled system that allows unmanned operation, and even mobile linkage and real-time control functions. The variable fertilizer, developed by Hosan Vision, is a precision fertilization device that automatically adjusts the amount of fertilizer according to crop growth or soil nutritional status, going beyond the existing uniform spraying method. The key is to supply fertilizer as needed to the crop through a data-driven algorithm.

Hosan Vision has proven the following effects through variable rate fertilization demonstrations over the past three years: 15% reduction in fertilizer usage, 20% or more reduction in labor, 30% reduction in fertilizer loss, 10% increase in production, and 30% reduction in soil contamination. Hosan Vision plans to carry out the ‘Autonomous Variable Rate Fertilizer Smart Package’ project for the next four years, further advancing its technology and bringing it to the commercialization stage.

A Hosan Vision official stated, “This research support project is the result of the fusion of Hosan’s accumulated agricultural machinery parts technology and future precision agriculture technology.” He added, “We will continue to lead the development and expansion of the smart agricultural machinery market and dedicate ourselves to developing technologies that simultaneously enhance the sustainability and economic feasibility of agriculture.”
